A partnership built on trust, teamwork and community
Behind every successful matchday at Birmingham City Football Club is a network of organisations working together to keep supporters safe and the city moving. One of the most trusted partners in that network is Traffix. We are responsible for managing matchday traffic and pedestrian access to and from St Andrew’s Knighthead Park.
Our relationship with the Club goes far beyond cones and road closures. For every fixture, the Traffix team works closely with Birmingham City, the local authority and the emergency services in the weeks leading up to kick-off, ensuring detailed planning, clear communication and a safe experience for supporters, residents and visitors alike. It’s a collaboration built on consistency, professionalism and mutual trust.
Birmingham City FC has long played a vital role within its local community, using the power of football to bring people together and support meaningful causes. One such commitment is Arthur’s Memorial Matchday, held in honour of Arthur Labinjo-Hughes, who tragically lost his life in 2020. Central to this tribute is a charity fixture involving local neighbours Solihull Moors FC, typically staged during pre-season.
Last year, unforeseen issues with Solihull Moors’ pitch led to the game being postponed. When the fixture was rearranged at short notice to take place at St Andrew’s, Traffix once again stepped up. Recognising the importance of the occasion and its charitable purpose, Traffix waived all costs, delivering full matchday road closures and event management at very short notice.
Pulling the event together so quickly required real teamwork from all involved and stands as a powerful testament to the strong relationship between Traffix and Birmingham City Football Club. It’s a partnership rooted not just in operational excellence, but in shared values, community responsibility and a genuine commitment to doing the right thing when it matters most.
Birmingham’s home fixture with Stoke City on the 24th January marked the club’s annual Arthur’s Memorial Matchday, a moment of reflection, remembrance and unity for everyone connected to Birmingham City.
For Andy Bradley, Safety Officer & Head of Stadium Security at Birmingham City this day was also a moment to say Thank You to Traffix: “The professionalism and commitment shown by Derek Vinning and the team at Traffix made a meaningful impact on the safe delivery of the Arthur Cup fixture. Their attention to detail and reliability was first class and their support ensured the event could take place as planned.”
Traffix Operations Director Derek Vinning added: “The relationships we foster with our clients are not just one-way traffic. There are times when they need us to step in and lend a hand. This was one such moment with our friends at Birmingham City. We were only too pleased to play our part in remembering Arthur.”
