Depot Manager Garry Willis is not someone who loses things easily. However, Garry did manage to lose his hair. For charity that is.
Garry ‘braved the shave’ to raise funds for Short Heath’s Lest We Forget Community Interest Company, to thank them for their help and support in giving his late father Terrance one last parade.
Terrance served with the Cheshire regiment as an infantry soldier. After leaving the Army Terrance was a regular attendee at various remembrance parades up and down the country. When Terrance became ill he thought he’d attended his last parade. However, through Garry’s determination and the support of Short Heath Lest We Forget, Terrance was present and correct for one more parade and a chance to once more remember former comrades and share stories with friends.
When Terrance passed away Lest We Forget helped Garry and his family to honour his military life. An outrider led the procession to the crematorium which was met by a guard of honour and a bugler played the last post.
To thank Lest We Forget for their kindness and support, Garry approached family, friends and Traffix colleagues and raised £1,500 by temporarily saying goodbye to his hair. The cheque was presented by Garry during Short Heath RBL Bowls Club’s Spindler’s Shield competition.
Garry commented…”I had to do something to repay Short Heath Lest We Forget. The team reached out and helped me to keep my word to my dad. I will be forever grateful.“
